Biography
I currently work as a software engineer for a major financial software developer in Manhattan. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Chemical Biology. I was raised in Southern California in a household of four, with one younger sibling. Growing up, I attended public magnet school and continued my education at Long Beach City College and UC Berkeley.
For the last three years, I've worked as a technical consultant for a large software vendor providing trading systems to large investment banks. I have worked on several client projects delivering front- and middle-office solutions for large investment banks and broker/dealers including Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, and the Royal Bank of Canada. In the coming months, I will be leading a team of several software developers for a new client. In the relatively near future, I plant to attend a competitive part-time MBA program around New York, for which preparation is already underway.
My interests are very ecclectic. I began studying classical piano at the age of four. During my early and middle childhood, I was a frequent competitor in the Long Beach Bach Festival and Long Beach Mozart Festivals, as well as many other events sponsored by the Long Beach Music Teachers Association. My favourite composers during this time were Beethoven and Chopin, although more recent interests include a renewed appreciation for Bach, Liszt, Schubert, and Rachmoninoff. I'm not exactly sure about my plans for a career in music; in fact, I haven't practiced in years, I have been interested in composing music, informal public performances, and also taking up the guitar. I'm also curious to research more about the effects of music on psychology and biochemistry, as well as research the area of absolute (aka "perfect") pitch. Other hobbies include book clubs, informal science lectures, discussing psychology, philosophy, and literature, meditation, as well as ballroom, swing, and salsa dancing (even though I'm very much an amateur!) I am also a bit of a recovering computer geek, but has neglected to embrace many of the latest online trends (e.g., Twitter).
I used to be very involved with MEETin.org, a nationwide social organisation for friends, while living in the San Francisco Bay Area and have taken on a leadership role as a Local City Administrator for the San Francisco region. However, this momentum did not continue after moving to New York. Nonetheless, I've regarded the region in high esteem for being one of the many excellent programs to meet people from all over the country.
My travel plans are just beginning to get underway, but I have already visited Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, and New York. In the relatively near future, I would love to visit Europe, especially spending some time in London, Paris, Prague, Greece, and Italy. I'm always interested in meeting new acquaintences who are well-travelled and have interesting stories to share of remote places.
