Professional, Academic, and Biographical Portrait

Biography

I currently work as a software engineer for a major financial software developer in Manhattan. I recently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Chemical Biology. I was raised in Southern California in a household of four, attending public magnet schools, whereupon I continued my education in the Long Beach City College's honors program, and eventually transferring to UC Berkeley in Fall 2004.

My interests are very ecclectic. I began studying piano at the age of four, specialising in classical music. During my early and middle childhood, I was a frequent competitor in the Long Beach Bach Festival and Long Beach Mozart Festival, as well as participated in many Long Beach Music Teachers Association recitals. My favourite composers during this time were Beethoven and Chopin, although more recent interests include Bach, Liszt, Schubert, and Rachmoninoff. While I'm not exactly sure about my plans for a career in music, I'm interested in composing music, informal public performances, and also taking up the guitar. I'm also curious to research more about the effects of music on psychology and biochemistry, as well as research the area of perfect (absolute) pitch. Other hobbies include attending book clubs, informal science lectures, discussing psychology, philosophy, and literature, meditation, ballroom, swing, and salsa dancing (even though I'm very much an amateur!), numismatics, and live theatre. I am also a bit of a recovering computer geek who maintains personal and professional websites and a regular blog.

I have recently become very involved with MEETin.org, a nationwide social organisation for friends, and have taken on a leadership role as a Local City Administrator for the San Francisco region. I hope to remain active in the MEETinNEWYORK chapter, but that has yet to be determined. It has been one of the most fascinating programs out there that unite people from all over the country for unique social and cultural events, and an excellent way to develop a social network in a new city.

My travel plans are just beginning to get underway, but I have already visited Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, and New York. In the relatively near future, I would love to visit Europe, especially spending some time in London, Paris, Prague, Greece, and Italy. I'm always interested in meeting new acquaintences who are well-travelled and have interesting stories to share of remote places.

This is by no means intended to be a comprehensive biography, but should serve as an introduction. Visitors are always encouraged to send e-mail, or read/comment on my blogs, for more current and detailed information.
